I agreed to watch my parent’s house while they were away on vacation.
They were scheduled to be gone for two weeks, so they wanted me to live at the house and keep an eye on things.
Their cat and dog also needed attention while they were away, so I was happy to help them out. When I arrived, I noticed that the house felt really comfortable. The weather was wonderful outside, which meant that I could open some doors and windows to let in a cool breeze. It felt wonderful, but unfortunately, I forgot to close everything up before going to bed. I woke up shivering and I was unable to get warm. Since I was sleepy, my first thought was to change the thermostat settings. When I found my parents’ thermostat, I noticed that they had upgraded to a smart thermostat. I didn’t know the first thing about working a smart thermostat, so I became really frustrated when I couldn’t get it to turn on. The screen kept saying that the thermostat was off, and no matter which button I pushed or how far the dial turned, it wouldn’t turn on. There was no way for me to turn on the furnace, so as I was snuggling back into bed, I finally remembered that I’d left the doors and windows wide open! I ran back out into the main area and shut them immediately. It took awhile, but the house finally warmed up and I was able to fall back asleep.
